There is a virus invader,
infecting,
killing,
widely spreading:
With an unknown creator
and a diabolical mission:
kill the most vulnerable,
spreading fear in its wake,
and impose a siege on the free.
How does it feel,
forced to stay at home?
Separated from friends and family?
Seeing only your own backyard?
That has been our life
for 14 years.
We live in a little strip:
just 365 kilometers long.
We too can’t leave.
Many of us have never even seen a plane
(unless you count war planes).
Comfort? We don’t really know
what that feels like.
We’re survivors of three wars
and bombs after.
Youth are at risk as much as the old.
Strong or weak, no difference.
COVID-19 is a disease, so “non-political.”
Outrage is universal.
But it’s a shame,
because while every country is helping one another,
we have faced the same for years.
Killed by the same killer, over and over.
The response: silence and indifference.
