we are not numbers

emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Samah A. Abuishaiba

I'm Samah Atef because I love to keep my father`s name next to mine.

Call me Fairy, that's what my friends call me because I'm a dreamer who dives deeply into my imagination.

I won't say I'm an English literature student and that's why I'm a writer, because it's not. I'm a writer because I know no other way to express my deep feelings. I'm not an introvert, though I might seem like one; on the contrary, I'm a social butterfly. They sometimes call me Adele because I sing her songs all the time, though Frank Sinatra is my favourite singer (old is gold isn't it). When I sing I feel every tone and word, just as I do when I write. I consider myself an emotional writer. I write in certain moods and feelings, otherwise I won't touch my notebook. Most of my drafts are dark somehow, but I add my light while editing.

I am very interested in psychology so I spend a lot of hours observing people's behaviors and reactions. I'm not a stalker, only an observer, and analyzer.

Sorry if my bio bothered you but I hate beginnings and ends. Meet me somewhere in the middle!

I forgot to say hi. SORRY! I was excited.

Malik and Hind’s love story takes an unexpected turn amidst the turmoil of war in Gaza.
Hope springs from suffering as children learn inside a tent in a camp for internally displaced persons in Gaza.
New aggression before we can heal from the previous ones.... New attack after I started to get used to peaceful nights.
Like other children in Gaza, I grew up experiencing war over and over.
