Waiting

Childhood in Gaza is not like elsewhere. We spend it waiting.

Childhood in Gaza is not like childhood outside. Children should be free to love dolls and games, but here, we are punished for simply playing football (as were the four Bakr children in 2014).  Instead, we cling to what makes us hopeful for the life of which we dream but are deprived of—in this case symbolized by a suitcase. Is this what can be called a “life”?
