The dove

On the first day of 2017, this is a wish that indigenous people everywhere come together to achieve peace and justice.

I'm dedicating this painting to my country and its people, whose suffering has been continual. I hope this new year will bring indigenous people everywhere a measure of justice and peace.

Her face glows red and green, the colors of Palestine. She holds a dove, the universal symbol of peace. Her necklace is a rainbow, the sign of inclusion. And the deep blue of her eyes represents the sea—which we hope to sail one day to join the human race, free and equal.

Thank you to Richard Murray, who assisted with the copy.
