Dedicated to the Palestinian journalists who have lost eyes due to Israeli gunfire: Muath Amarneh, Attia Darwish and Sami Masran. And to protesters around the world, including those in Chile, who are suffering the same fate at the hands of autocratic governments. 

The eyes,
an organ for sight,
a door to the soul,
an endearment: ayooni*,
a witness to crimes.
You can shoot them,
but you can't
destroy the truth
of what we see.

The eyes:
You shot one
but I still have another.
I still stand to expose your actions.
If your truth is the truth,
why do you shoot?

The eyes:
What you kill today
will be reborn again
in the eyes of
the next generation of youth,
standing tall
to tell the story of
your oppression.
