How to Make Short Films with Ahmad Hamad
July 3, 2022 | In his second session with We Are Not Numbers, Ahmad Hamad, a Palestinian interdisciplinary artist from the Gaza Strip, delivered a lecture on the technical aspects of making videos to share via social media. WANN writers were later divided into groups and then produced five short films on different topics related to the Gaza Strip. One of the films that was produced by our WANNers, for example, featured knafeh, a traditional Palestinian dessert. More of these videos will be available shortly through WANN media channels.

July 7, 2022| Philip Weiss, founder and co-editor of Mondoweiss, a U.S. website devoted to informing readers about developments in Israel/Palestine and related US foreign policy, talked about the visibility of Palestine and Palestinians in U.S. media. He also described the types of stories that could attract the attention of people outside Palestine.

July 13, 2022 | Jen Marlow, an award-winning author, filmmaker, playwright, and human rights activist, and Kate Schwartz, public engagement manager at Just Vision, a nonprofit media organization, spoke about the narrator’s position in relation to a story being told and the importance of choosing the appropriate POV (first-, second- or third-person/I, you, we, he, she, they) for a given piece of creative work.

July 20, 2022 | Alice Rothchild, M.D., an American obstetrician, filmmaker, and social justice activist, explained the term “semitism” and its meaning and origin. She clarified the difference between semitism and Zionism, and she talked about how accusations of antisemitism have been leveled to stifle fair discussion of Israel’s conduct.
