New Year’s wishes

New Year's Eve is a time for wishes, and these are mine.

Fireworks behind New York's statue of libery

I see them in a movie,
eating my dream with sticks:
sushi in a real Japanese
restaurant.

I want to spend the New Year’s Eve
in Bethlehem, Rome, London
or New York,
sitting at a spread of food
made by Jamie Oliver or Lidia
Bastianich*.

I want to gaze into a sky filled with fireworks
that are not bombs or missiles,
make a snow man,
throw snowballs at my friends.

I wish that when the new year is born,
I could throw confetti in the air
and blow my horn,
knowing my wishes could come true.

*Jamie Oliver is a British celebrity chef and restaurateur; Lidia
Bastianich is the same from Croatia and Italy.
