Sarah Jacobus is a Los Angeles-based writer and teaching artist in creative writing and storytelling. She has taught English as a Second Language in public adult schools and creative writing in a range of diverse settings, including libraries, L.A. County juvenile probation camps and residential substance abuse treatment centers. She taught writing workshops in public high schools throughout the Los Angeles school district or five years as part of PEN West’s PEN in the Classroom program. Since 2018, Sarah has taught creative writing for older adult residents of the Burbank Senior Artists Colony. She believes that locating the stories in our lives and the creative process of finding a voice to tell them can be a powerful way to claim the authenticity of our experiences, cultures and identities.

Sarah is a licensed clinical social worker and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. Her essays have appeared in the Los Angeles Times and other journals and anthologies. She has been active in organizations advocating for Palestinian human rights for over 30 years and is excited to support the work of young Palestinian writers through We Are Not Numbers.
