Ramón J. Stern

    Ramón J. Stern is a professional translator and interpreter specializing in Brazil and Latin America. He recently completed a Fulbright in Brazil on Moroccan Jewish migration to the Amazon, and is an independent scholar of Mizrahi Jewish communities from the Middle East and North Africa.

    He has served as a medical interpreter, translation project specialist for official documents for immigrants and refugees, and a higher education administrator, including administrative manager for Brown University’s Brazil Initiative and for the academic non-profit BRASA (Brazilian Studies Association). Ramón is fully fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and proficient in modern Hebrew and in Arabic. He studied Arabic abroad in Cairo on the CASA program from 2008-2009 and visited Gaza on a student and CodePink delegation in 2009.

    He currently serves as the bilingual outreach specialist for Madison School and Community Recreation, a recreation center that serves thousands of people each year in the Madison area of Wisconsin. He also is a freelance translator and interpreter for Dane County’s Department of Human Services and Atlantic Interpreters, LLC.
