emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Margi Keys

Margi Keys is a pedantic retired ESOL teacher, census enthusiast, and Age Concern volunteer living in Whanganui, New Zealand. Five years ago, concerned about the widespread misuse of the apostrophe, she set up a fun Facebook page called Grammar Vigilantes of Aotearoa, which now has an international membership. Her role as vigilante-in-chief keeps her amused while indulging her passion for the evolving English language, maintaining its punctuation standards, and advocating for expression with kindness. This helps with her proofreading business, which is mostly for writers who do not have English as their first language.

To balance her sedentary work, Margi keeps fit by all-year-round cycling, swimming, and walking. She plans active adventures which focus on botanising and exploring. Her interest in nature includes the native trees and birds of New Zealand, edible weeds, and sustainability. Margi’s enduring concerns are climate change, single-use plastic, inequality, invasive weeds, and the patriarchy.
