David Neel teaches mathematics at Seattle University, including history of mathematics and quantitative reasoning for non-math majors. He is also a published writer of creative nonfiction and mathematical research. He has mentored students writing for his courses and is excited to help writers continue to find their own voice and build and strengthen their ideas.
Formerly an evangelical Christian Zionist, he underwent a radical transformation as a young adult and is now part of a Faculty/Staff for Justice in Palestine group at his university. He has written about war, national boundaries, and the interplay of mathematics with history, philosophy, and religious belief, along with more personal work on grief and on the importance of patient mentorship. Two cats, Aki and Marlowe, live with and occasionally approve of David..
