Chana Basha Helfand is an author/illustrator originally from Turtle Island (U.S.A.). She started drawing and writing in her childhood and they both proved to be a salvation. She’s been an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher for the past 20 years. She started off teaching immigrants and refugees in Philadelphia, and from there went on to teach in Madrid and Boston, among a few other places. Her work also allowed her to travel long-term as a (digital) nomad; it was a dream come true as travel is one of her passions. She wishes that travel was a human right and an obligation.
She’s given mental health talks to various schools, reading groups, and organizations, as mental health, especially as it relates to the social injustices that are behind so much suffering, is another one of her passions.
She’s currently studying art therapy and hopes to create a healing arts program and alternative travel educational program in Spain, her adopted home. It is her privilege to work with the incredible human beings at We Are Not Numbers. You can read more about Chana on her website: www.chanabasha.com.
