Candida Lacey has worked in publishing since completing her Ph.D. in 1985. As an editor and publisher, and now as a literary agent, she has spent many years mentoring and working closely with new and experienced authors, and commissioning books that highlight marginalized lives and perspectives.
She has published books on some of the most pressing and sensitive political issues of our time, including What We Talk About When We Talk About Rape by Sohaila Abdulali and Twelve Feminist Lessons of War by Cynthia Enloe. She has edited stories by and about refugees who have endured long and dangerous journeys, including All Else Failed by Dana Sachs and Map of Hope and Sorrow by Helen Benedict and Eyad Awwadawnan.
Several of her authors have won and been listed for awards, including the Women’s Prize, Desmond Elliott, Authors’ Club Best First Novel, Polari, Jhalak and Diverse Book Awards.
She is also a founding director of the Margaret Busby New Daughters of Africa Award which funds an African student to study at SOAS University of London.
