“Fighting Genocide with Words” will feature poems by WANN writers, among others, alongside artwork inspired by their words.
An exhibition showcasing poetry from the frontline in Gaza, alongside original works by emerging artists from the UK and beyond, will open with a launch event in Central London on May 17, 5 p.m.
The launch will be held at Fleet Studios, 8-12 New Bridge Street, Central London. Admission is free.
Attendees will be able to hear directly from students of the late Dr. Refaat Alareer, who are fighting back through their courageous and defiant words. Writers from We Are Not Numbers—Dima Ashour, Nowar Diab, and Farida Algoul—are among the featured poets. Artwork that interprets their poems will be on display, and the artists will be at the launch event to talk about how they interpreted the poems into visual representations.
According to Fleet Studios, the May 17 event will be “a celebration of artistic solidarity and support for Palestine, from Palestine and afar. We are fighting genocide with words. Do not miss this unique opportunity to be part of something on May 17, 5 p.m. There will never be an event like it anywhere in the world!”
The exhibition itself will run May 17-21. Artworks will then be auctioned and a book will follow later this summer. All proceeds (not just profits) from auction, print, and book sales will go directly to Medical Aid for Palestine and UNWRA.
