Jaffa's sea in her eyes,
Standing tall like Jerusalem
A wake-up slap in the enemy's face
Strong like a shield.
Pretty sweet sixteen.
But she has thrown away her childish dolls
And runs with the Palestinian flag,
Hungry for freedom.
Fear is not part of her game;
Standing sharp and forceful like a flame
In front of her oppressor,
At the door of her house.
Like a wild animal shoved into a cage.
For Ahed Tamimi,16, who was seized from her Nabi Saleh (West Bank) home by about 30 Israeli soldiers in the early morning hours of December 19 and now is being held in prison along with her mother, father and sister. She has been a fearless advocate for her people since the age of 9. The reference to "Mockingjay" in the title refers to the book and move, "The Hunger Games." The lead character, Katniss, is called the Mockingjay for her people, because the hybrid bird is a symbol of hope and rebellion.
