Al-Orjwan Shurrab

A 22-year-old university graduate in English literature, Orjwan has not let her unemployment, so common among young adults n Gaza, stop her from further developing her skills. She has volunteered in a number of organizations, including We Are Not Numbers' host organiztion, El-Wedad Society for Community Rehabilitation (for which she coordinated youth activities and translated reports). Orjwan also worked with an American Friends Service Committee project, in which children interviewed their grandparents about their experiences of displacement and then wrote them as stories for a book. "I believe writing is the tool to bring about social and political change in this world," she says.
