After staving off COVID-19 for months while the virus raged around the world, "community spread" of the disease was detected within the Gaza Strip in August. And since then it has rapidly spread. As of this writing, the Strip remains under a total lockdown, the number of people who have tested positive is 1,551 and 10 residents have died.

Our writers are documenting life under lockdown in a series of "COVID diaries" (with the last listed being the most recent):

Day one of the spread

Mad, mad world

Swirling rumors

This time I'm not afraid

Found opportunities

Gaza's double lockdown

Three nightmares and now a fourth

Lockdowns can kill too

Life on hold

A night in lockdown

A pandemic birthday

A parrot's journal

Has the pandemic made the world like Gaza?

Dream, plan, then life turns upside down

Home sweet quarantine

Gaza and the invisible enemy
