Even if….

I imagine our house under the wing of a dragon with all its warmth / Even if all that surrounds us is a tent.
Young woman in white jacket and black hijab.
A sad woman hugging her home.
Artist: Yara Zuhod, Flyers for Falestin

When the clouds gather
And strike a deal in the sky
Then it will pour heavily
A marathon of rain between the sky and the earth

I imagine red velvet curtains hanging from the top window
Even if the wind can penetrate

I imagine a cup of tea in my hands and chestnuts on the fire
Even if they get wet with firewood

I imagine myself in my bed reading a book
Even if I lie on the ground with a blanket

I imagine our house under the wing of a dragon with all its warmth
Even if all that surrounds us is a tent

I imagine a visit from my friend and her family to us
Even if they were killed by fire and injustice

I imagine candles with the scent of musk and amber
Even if I see nothing but lightning

I imagine an orchestra that plays
Even if I hear nothing but the sound of the rain

I imagine the moon watching from behind the clouds
Even if it hides from the storm’s rage

I imagine the BFG giving me a sweet dream
Even if I do not sleep for fear of being shot

I imagine a safety like the feeling of a butterfly in a field of flowers
Even if I were a victim of genocide

I imagine a peaceful slumber
Even if the thunder tries to disrupt it

Are my eyes raining now?
