emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Wesam Alnaouq

Wesam is a student of English literature at Al-Azhar University Gaza. He believes strongly that youth can make a difference, and that's why he is doing his best to help the people of his country by volunteering. “Life has taught me one thing,” he says. “Obstacles are like mountains. They are not going to move. You need to take action to overcome them.” Studying English literature has shown Wesam the importance of writing and reading. As a result, he became interested in writing stories about life, to share Palestinians’ experience with the rest of the world. “I've never been outside Palestine,” he says. “but through reading, I have managed to virtually travel to different countries and learn about different cultures.”

The three men screamed for help, but no one responded. Everyone was gone, or maybe, like us, they were too afraid to go outside. Anything that moved was a target.
I have found zombies on earth. They live in a tiny, densely packed place called Gaza and few people seem to care about them.
Killing the dreams of youth is a crime against humanity.
