Wesam Thabet is a freelance translator, writer, and subtitler. Unfortunately, due to the current war she has been unable to use these skills for nine months. She was supposed to graduate this year as a translation student from Islamic University of Gaza, but like all universities in Gaza, the institution has been turned into rubble. She still dreams of completing her bachelor’s degree and going on to earn a master’s degree. In the future she hopes to be a talented translator with a long-term job.

Wesam says, “Dr. Rafaat Alareer is the one who inflamed the passion of writing in my heart.” Dr. Rafaat was a renowned poet and professor of literature and creative writing in Gaza who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in December 2023; he also was instrumental in the formation of We Are Not Numbers.
