Sondos Saad Alfayoumi
A kite that has been always flying thinking that she is untamed. Yet, I was not. Down there, a fine thread has been controlling me telling me where to go, how to act, and which mask of emotions to wear. Through writing, I found the courage that pushed me to cut that thread and to finally set my real self free.
This is Sondos, which literally means "soft silk." I'm passionate about literature and art. I received a CPPF scholarship through UNRWA to study English language and literature at the Islamic University of Gaza. Yes, I am a refugee from Al-Muharraqa, a gorgeous village near the Gaza strip. In my spare time, I draw, write, go to art galleries, and participate in virtual exchange programs. It's a great opportunity to clarify the misunderstanding of the Palestinian issue and Islam.
WANN allows me to let the world hear my people's songs. Yes, I believe that a piece of writing is a song full of emotion that makes you feel something. We write by listening to what the silent pages hold, of screaming, weeping, and hidden hope between the lines. A writer once said, "The words are not coming from but through you."
