My friend Mustafa
Every time I try to grasp the idea that he won’t return, I feel a burning pain, like trying to stare directly into the sun.
- Gaza Strip
Sadeq Nawaf Abdul Hafez is from the northern part of the Gaza Strip. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Azhar University in Gaza just two weeks before the war began.
“I dream of becoming a prosthetics engineer and pursuing advanced degrees in this field. However, the war has placed a barrier between me and my aspirations. I missed my scheduled master’s program journey, and a few months ago, I suffered a knee tendon injury that continues to trouble me to this day.”
Current as of January 2025
Every time I try to grasp the idea that he won’t return, I feel a burning pain, like trying to stare directly into the sun.
Returning home, I stopped, not because of any barrier but because of a feeling that I was about to cross into a place that no longer belonged to the living.
My dream to become a prosthetics engineer has been delayed by Israel’s war on Gaza, but it has not been crushed.
