emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Riwaa Abuquta

A resident of Rafah city, which has witnessed the worst of the many wars on Gaza, Riwaa earned a bachelor’s degree in English language and teaching methods. For more than five years, she has worked as a freelance writer and one-to-one teacher of English. Ever since Riwaa was a child, she has loved creative writing and cultural exchange, although she has never travelled abroad. She draws her inspiration for her writing from everything happening around her.

    my work

    Only God consoles.
How will normalization prevent what happened to my friend and schoolmate, Nouran, from happening again?
Waiting for herd immunity would be mass suicide in Gaza.
I close my eyes and imagine...
There are many ways to feel locked down.
Abroad, I hear, you feel light. Shoulders without burden.
We want to live lives that are not defined by violence.
Every day is its own story.
