emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Majd Salem

Majd is a Palestinian refugee from Gaza, but his original home town is Al-Jiyya. He was raised in Gaza until he left when he was 17, traveling to Tunisia to pursue his university studies in international relations. He says: "I wasn't aware I would miss my people so much. All I thought about was to see the world ourside of Gaza, I still remember my first days in Tunisia, when I got on a train and started touching the chairs and staring out of the window while it was moving.

"I love traveling, reading books, football and documentaries. I write about our daily life and reality in Palestine to correct the wrong image so many people have of us. In addition, I deeply believe my words will reach the hearts of those people who believe in justice and human rights, and thus bring about change. Together, we can improve our reality and create a better future based on peace and love."

He was brimming with talent and aiming for an overseas scholarship when an Israeli missile killed him one year ago.
"I will always practice art, until one day I return with my mother to our city of Nazareth."
“Our sons are being thrown into the sea and the fish are eating them.”
There is no safe place for anyone in Palestine, but I think our journalists are being singled out for harm.
My message to these youths: Don't give up yet.
