emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Maisoon Bashir

Maisoon, 23, describes herself as “a simple Palestinian girl, a freelance translator, a journalist and a human rights activist.” She studied English translation at Gaza University, and loves photography because she believes that “pictures talk.” Her father, who passed away five years ago, taught Maisoon to always look to the future and avoid “being distracted by the painful present.” She says, “The people of Gaza have dreams and high hopes for the future just like me, and I want to teach the world about the values and principles that I learned in Gaza, in my school and in my house.”

    my work

Inside myself I feel like an old woman watching my young outer self; I cannot believe this lovely girl of just 23 years thinks like this.
When I look back on last summer, it’s like reading the script for an action drama for a TV series that no one would believe.
Usually, I write about myself, about my feelings, dreams and goals. I write about Maisoon and I am the heroine. But now I have found a new heroine, my mother.
