emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Lubna Abdelwahab Abuhashem

Lubna Abdelwahab Abuhashem studied English literature and translation at the Islamic University of Gaza. She says, “Now I want to write; I want to represent myself as a human who has a just cause, someone who looks for freedom but suffers under occupation. I am a human who has the right to live like everyone around the world. I have the right to resist with all legitimate methods and tools. I want to represent myself as a human who is ignored by the powerful ruling this world.”

Lack of electricity, travel restrictions, and other limitations affect the psychological well-being of everyone in Gaza.
“My heart is shattered for Sudan. It is my second home.”
“On that day, my brother-in-law found their passports and other personal items, but he couldn’t find them.”
"Some doubted that my business would succeed. But the customers keep growing and keep coming back."
Why does Israel ban mothers from traveling with their sick children who need medical treatment outside Gaza?
"I hugged the engine. This engine is more precious than our son and if it is gone, I can’t replace it with another one."
“I wait for his body. I want to see him. I cry my eyes out every day,” his mother bemoaned.
