A tribute to my companion
Why do you not seem dead? / Why do I catch myself crying for you?

Jazeel Hamid is a Gazan writer, originally from Beit Hanoun, but raised in Al-Remal in Gaza City. Following the events of October 7, 2023, she evacuated with her younger sister to Amman, Jordan, and hopes to continue her studies in France. Her work explores memory, displacement, and the intimate weight of silence. She draws most of her writing from personal experience, if not from the collective history of Gaza, and Gazans before herself. In recent pieces, she focuses on the themes of resilience, resistance, and diaspora’s effects on one’s identity.
