Ink against erasure

- Gaza Strip
Eman Eid is a 22-year-old Gaza-based writer and genocide survivor. In February 2025, in the face of the devastation caused by Israel’s unrelenting attacks, she graduated with honors from Al-Azhar University of Gaza with a degree in English-Arabic translation. Her passion for storytelling comes from her belief in the power of words, words she uses to fight Israeli crimes against her and her people. She likes writing stories that inspire hope and focus on rebirth from the ashes of despair.
Before the war, she worked briefly as a freelance translator and content writer. During the war she volunteered as an English teacher in a school where she inspired her students to resistance and hope.
Current as of February 2025
We write / to keep our names alive / to carve our stories into time.
I had hoped a childhood fantasy would turn displacement into an outdoor adventure. It didn’t.
When we laugh in Gaza, it’s the kind of laughter that burns in our throats, hides our screams, and keeps us from unraveling.
The fairy tale characters I feared as a child have turned into F-16 jets and quadcopters.
