Doaa Mohaisen

Do’aa is a graduate of English language and literature at the Islamic University of Gaza. She now is pursuing her master’s degree in translation at Qatar’s Hamid Bin Khalifa University. Doaa says her life revolves around reading, writing, “endless discussions about language”–and, oh yes, counting the stars and stargazing. Do’aa hopes she can contribute to making the world a better place for the coming generations. “My passion for writing is what keeps me alive,” she says. (She also describes herself as somewhat crazy and reckless!)

    my work

When I traveled to the United States for a semester, I was forced to confront the inequality of our educational systems.
All I wanted was some Sudafed. But I was not allowed that relief because my homeland isn't in the U.S. "system."
Living through war teaches you many things about science, humans and life.
How does one feel after surviving a war? This girl from Gaza feels she must apologize,
'I wasn't a clever girl, but I wanted to learn,' says Samah. Now, each craft she makes whispers the joy she feels in her creation.
In Gaza, youth living in this ravaged, war-torn zone are opening their arms wide to those willing to finance their first small baby steps toward independence.
Reading my sister's diary showed me that cooking can mean so much more than producing food to eat.
All over the world--including in Gaza--rap tells it like it is. This rapper uses his music to take on everything from misogyny to government corruption.
What's the difference between the age of 19 and 20? To me, a lot.
When my parents taught me what they thought would become a foundational lesson, it never crossed their minds I would turn into a pretty good bargainer at the age of eight.
Despite conditions that would defeat most ordinary people, this 13-year-old is compelling artists outside of Gaza to take notice.
