emerging writers from Palestine tell their stories and advocate for their human rights

Amany Elkahlout

Amany, 22, received her B.A. in English literature from the Islamic University of Gaza in 2015. During that same summer, she trained with the public relations department of the Gaza Com munity Mental  Health Programme, for which she translated its news and other stories into English. "Reading, writing and translating English documents are my hobbies," she says. "Books are worlds without borders; they are like it’s unconditional passports that enable you to travel in time, to meet new people from different backgrounds and ideologies. And writing gives me a sense of satisfaction, like creating a piece of art."

It looked as if Ameera would not get out of Gaza to study, as is the case with so many. But she and her sister never gave up, and they won.
