Alaa Dmeida is an English literature student at the Islamic University.

She believes in this sentence: “Not every freedom fighter is a person who carries a gun; you can fight using your words.”

“As a witness to the destruction and genocide on Gaza, I feel it is my duty to keep my city alive in people’s hearts and to reach out the voice of my oppressed people to the world,” she says. “I believe words don’t die, they stay forever. So I dream of becoming a great writer, using my words to reach the widest audience possible and to leave a lasting impact.”

Stones of memory

Gaza City’s great buildings have been turned into ruins, but I keep them alive in a memory of a tour my family took just before the war.
