We Are Not Numbers has hired an experienced journalist who is also an alumni of the writing program to serve as its project coordinator, working in Gaza City. The position had been empty since October 2023 when Israel’s war on Gaza made in-person activities impossible.

Dremly was among the few journalists who remained in northern Gaza throughout the war, reporting on the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe during the media blackout.

His reporting and essays have been published in Middle East Eye, +972 Magazine, The Electronic Intifada, and The Intercept, and they have been translated and republished by several French and Italian websites and newspapers. He has coordinated multi-author projects, facilitated writing workshops, and supported other writers in developing their stories.

Dremly is also the co-founder of a learning program, the Al-Awael Center in Gaza City.

As WANN’s project coordinator, Dremly will secure and manage the organization’s office space in Gaza and oversee the resumption of training activities for emerging writers. He also will assist the organization in expanding its communications efforts, such as by moving back into video production, venturing into podcasting, and helping writers launch professional journalism careers.

“My journey with We Are Not Numbers started in 2022 when I was just a mentee looking for a way to speak out,” says Dremly. “This program helped me find my own voice, and now it’s my turn to help a new generation of writers in Gaza do the same.

“By restarting our training program despite everything we are going through, we are showing the world that our stories matter and that we refuse to be silenced.”
