After the new year was beheaded last year
she decides to come back for this New Year’s Eve
carrying the head of a Palestinian child.
The head of one child beheaded in one Israeli attack.

She hurtles to earth.
Landing on the dream of the genocide enablers.
Carrying all the scars on the child’s face.
Carrying all the horrific scenes he saw.

In a moment of doubt
the new year asks, will this change anything?
But she knows she can’t be silent.
She must do something.

At the same time
she wonders, how can they sleep?
How can all the scenes not shake their core?
How can they allow so many children to be decapitated?

While the new year sinks in her questions,
a nearby explosion cracks the face of earth.
In the news, Israel kills five journalists before the new year arrives.
Another baby is born without his father.
